Prevention: Talk to Your Kids 1. Control your insulin levels. Make certain that you limit your intake of processed foods and sugars as much as possible. 2. Get appropriate amounts of animal-based omega-3 fats and make sure you use cod liver oil if you don't have regular access to sun exposure. 3. Get appropriate exercise. 4. Normalize your vitamin D levels with safe amounts of sun exposure. 5. Eat according to your metabolic nutrition type. 6. Have a tool to permanently erase the neurological short-circuiting that can activate cancer genes, such as counseling, Primal Therapy, or the Emotional Freedom Technique. 7. You are never too old to tell your kids to eat their vegetables! Only 25 percent of people eat enough vegetables, so don‘t be shy. Ideally, they should be fresh, raw, and organic. 8. Maintain an ideal body weight. 9. Get enough high-quality sleep. 11. Boil, poach, or steam your foods, rather than frying or charbroiling them.
According to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, only 5-10% of cancers are considered hereditary. However, in 1994, Dr. Ralph Hruban started the National Familial Pancreas Tumor Registry (NFPTR) at Johns Hopkins University. The NFPTR has registered thousands of families who have members with pancreatic cancer. In my opinion, the NFPTR is the most accurate data available on the pancreatic cancer family connection. (I do not say “heredity” because you have more than your parent’s genes--you have much of their lifestyle, habits, and routines.)
For pancreatic cancer specifically, a diet rich in flavonols can reduce the risk of developing the disease by about 25%. Some examples of flavonols are: onions, apples, spinach, cabbage, red onions, and berries. Research has also shown that men who exercised strenuously at least 8 hours a month had only 59% of the pancreatic cancer risk of men who exercised less. 11 recommendations for general cancer prevention are:
10. Reduce your exposure to environmental toxins like petroleum products, pesticides, household chemical cleaners, synthetic air fresheners, and air pollution.

My Dad's Battle with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer

If you can believe it, this is my Dad in his gym over a year after being diagnosed.

The Father-Daughter Dance I wasn't sure if I was going to have! October 20, 2007

My dad's widow and cancer advocate Lorri

Shaved and buzzed heads in support of Dad losing his hair!

Shaved and buzzed heads in support of Dad losing his hair!

This is my version of shaving my head to show support.

The first time I saw this picture I cried...he went from a young man to an old man after just a few weeks of chemo.

Dad's 53rd birthday. They said he had 24 hours...but he was in the hallway the next day doing push-ups for the nurses, saying, "See! I'm fine. Let me go home now!"
100-mile bike ride/cancer fundraiser that my dad's widow participated
in...She raised over $5,000. The last practice ride her team (Team
in Training) did before the race was dedicated to my Dad.
