Detoxify HOW TO DETOXIFY YOUR ORGANS
DETOXIFYING AND CLEANSING THE BODY
In an article entitled “Cancer Detoxification Approaches,” PositiveHealth.Com said, “Whichever therapy you decide to use to treat any [cancer] condition, the therapy will work quicker and more effectively if the patient is safely and successfully detoxified first.” Six simple techniques I recommend for detoxifying your immune system are:
LIFTING TOXIC BURDENS FROM THE BODY

Colon Cleansing SIGNS OF AN UNHEALTHY COLON
If you are serious about detoxifying your body to help your immune system function better, consider doing a colon cleansing or "colonic." Research shows that the average American has anywhere between 5-20 pounds of impacted in their colon. When actor John Wayne died of colon cancer, he had over 50 pounds of undigested food in his colon. FIFTY POUNDS! It's easy to see how this could contribute to the toxicity in your body.
Natural Healing Today magazine reports that 50% of our immune systems are located in or around our digestive system. The Colon Digest goes as far as to say that your overall health depends on the health of your colon. If you are only having one bowel movement a day or less, that is one of the biggest warning signs of needing a colon cleansing. Also, if defacating requires a lot of grunting and work, this is another sign of an unhealthy colon.
There are a number of ways you can cleanse your colon: pills, enemas, hydrotherapy, at home, with a doctor, etc. Be aware that a colon cleanser will not benefit you as much as it is capable of doing if you are unwilling to change poor health habits.

Rule #1, no more sugar. Think of this...what is the hardest substance in your body? The enamel of your teeth, right? And what can eat through enamel quicker than anything? That's right, sugar. Now imagine what sugar can do to the rest of your body. Raw food is important because the more food is cooked, the more of its nutrients are stripped away. Also, when food is cooked or heated, it creates microscopic bits of “burnt” matter in the food. Just like smoke, charcoal, or ash, these burnt microbes are toxic in our bodies. Replace frying and barbequing with boiling, steaming, and poaching. Organic food is also important because it will help you avoid more pollution in your body--to include pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, and genetically modified stuff. You can buy organic veggies, meat, dairy products, and eggs in any regular grocery store. PANCREATIC CANCER AND SUGAR
Nutrition
Did you know 40% of cancer patients die from malnutrition? In fact, Alternative-Health-Group.Org says, “Cancer should be called a nutritional…disorder.” Chances are your regular doctor isn’t going to give you any more details than, “Eat right.” Sadly, the details I’m about to give you can save your life.
Sugar makes all forms of cancer grow, as proven by Dr. Otto Warburg in his Nobel Prize-winning research from 1931. Cancer cells rely almost completely on sugar as their source of energy. However, this is particularly true for pancreatic cancer. Remember one of the pancreas’ functions is to produce insulin. When you eat sugary foods, you increase your insulin demand and decrease your insulin sensitivity. This increases local blood flow and cell division, including cancer cells, within the pancreas. Let me re-iterate, eating sugar makes pancreatic cancer grow.

It reduces the growth of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones, which keeps dormant tumors from becoming cancerous. The very best source of Vitamin D? Direct sun exposure. VITAMIN D AND CANCER
Vitamin D
People who get the US RDA (recommended daily allowance) of Vitamin D reduced their risk of pancreatic cancer by 43%. Researchers have concluded that increasing the intake of Vitamin D3 around the world could prevent close to 1 million disease-related deaths per year. How does Vitamin D fight cancer?

Think of exercise as a drug. If you aren’t getting enough, you will not get any benefit. If you get too much, you may encounter negative side effects, like strained muscles. Experts recommend at least one hour per day of exercise. If you do not currently have the stamina for that (or are otherwise too sick), start with small doses and build your way up. Maybe that just means walking around the block for today. GETTING PHYSICAL WITH CANCER
Exercise
I know this is really going to shock you, but exercise can increase the likelihood of surviving cancer and reduce the chance of it returning. Exercise is a great way to enhance your immune function. What you might not know is that exercise makes the insulin in your body much more effective--this way you don’t have to produce as much of it. In other words, exercise gives your tired pancreas a rest.

While this is true with cancer in general, it is particularly true with pancreatic cancer--dealing with the emotional aspects can be more taxing than fighting the physical aspects. I encourage you to seek counseling during this time because a study at the University of Wisconsin showed that depression weakens your immune system.
Counseling
According to the National Cancer Institute, 15-25% of people with cancer are also suffering from depression. When you are diagnosed with cancer, there is an adjustment period. It is, of course, normal to react with shock, disbelief, and denial. Once you are able to maintain active involvement in your traditional daily activities, this is a good indication that you have adjusted to "life with cancer."
It is NOT true that:

SLEEP AND CANCER
Good Sleep
A study by St. Luke’s Medical Center found that 44% of cancer patients slept poorly.
According to Brain Behavior Immunology, having a regular circadian rhythm helps defend against cancer. When your circadian rhythm, or sleep behavior, is disrupted it reduces production of the hormone melatonin. Melatonin is an antioxidant that suppresses harmful free radicals in your body, which will greatly assist in your battle against cancer. Additionally, University of Chicago researchers have repeatedly shown that insufficient sleep increases insulin resistance. Insulin resistance not only leads to cancer, but it is rough on your pancreas.

Dr. Moss also recommends meditation, yoga, and volunteer work for stress relief. Last year, the Wake Forest University School of Medicine discovered that the stress hormone epinephrine can make cancer cells resist death. Dr. George Kulik, who worked on the project says, “Emotional stress may contribute to the development of cancer and may reduce the effectiveness of cancer treatments.” Results of the study were published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.
Stress Relief
As you fight cancer, you’ll realize that tension may build up at home. Whether you realize it or not, pancreatic cancer is affecting everyone in your house to one degree or another. Each person is dealing with their own fears, annoyances, inconveniences, worries, and stress. Dr. Moss recommends calling a family meeting once a week where everyone can bring up the things weighing them down in a safe environment, free of criticism and scolding.

Laughter is important in your cancer journey on two levels--it will boost your immune system, and it will improve your attitude. Laughter functions in three powerful ways: biophysically, biochemically, and bioenergetically. Natural health researcher Mike Adams says that, for every minute of laughter, $10,000 worth of healthy body chemistry is produced. Some of the physical benefits of laughter are: It increases the number and activity of natural killer cells. It activates T-cells, which play a major role in your immune response. It increases gamma interferon, which activate the immune system. It increases Complement 3, which assists antibodies in attacking infected cells. It helps pump waste through your body’s lymph system, which is crucial for your immune system to function. It increases oxygenation at the cellular and organ level--cancer cells are destroyed in the presence of oxygen. Additionally, laughter can help you adopt a hopeful attitude, rather than becoming depressed or discouraged. The mere ability to recognize the humor in a situation can improve your mood. Oncology Dr. Michael Van Scoy-Morsher says, “One characteristic of the cancer patient who does well is the ability to often put cancer in the background for periods of time.” Cancer survivor and TV journalist Linda Ellerbee feels that laughter was a form of courage for her. Christine Clifford, also a cancer survivor, is the author of books like Cancer Has Its Privileges: Stories of Hope and Laughter and Not Now…I’m Having a No Hair Day! She explains that after she found out she had cancer, she refused to let her family live in fear. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, loved ones don’t know what to say…so, frequently, they say nothing. Ms. Clifford explains that you need to “set the tone” to let your family and friends know what is appropriate. If you don’t tell your support system that laughter is OK, they won’t know.

Laughter is one thing, but now sex! Yes, it’s true…sex can also boost your immune system. Psychologists discovered that having sex just once or twice a week can triple your levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA), an immune-boosting antibody. Additionally, sex is a work-out that releases endorphins, raises the heart rate, and gets your lymph system circulating. Endorphins can relieve pain, help the body handle stress, and ease feelings of depression. Chiropractic Dr. Eric Plasker, author of The 100 Year Lifestyle, advocates having sex as part of his regimen for living a century. He says, “Just being aroused can heighten heart rates and more than double a person's pulse and burn calories…While sex does burn calories and is good for you physically, the emotional and spiritual benefits of sex are even greater.”

In his career as an Herbal Medicine Practitioner for 20 years, Robert McDowell recommends the following for pancreatic cancer: Bladderack, Blue Flag, Comfrey, Chamomile, Dandelion, Fennel, Parsley, Rosehips, Violet Leaves, Mimulus, Walnut, Water Violet, and Scieranthus. Also, Mr. McDowell always recommends the super antioxidant Maritime Pine Bark.
The University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute released a study in 2007 showing the herb triphala slows the growth of not just tumors and cancer cells, but it specifically kills PC through a process called apoptosis. The study also showed triphala reduced the size of tumors without any negative side effects.
Herbal Supplements
Something else to consider is taking herbal supplements. Some experts feel supplements are too hard to absorb and digest; others disagree. The decision is yours. If they work for you, then go with it. Also, know that many herbs are available in the form of essential oils, which can be rubbed on your skin, or as herb teas--both of which bypass the digestion problem.
